Route 66: A motorcycle trip through New Mexico and Texas

Posted on February 27, 2024February 27, 2024 By Rian

Back on the road again. There’s not much quite like the feeling of freedom you get from riding through the desert with the wind in your face. With miles of highway stretching out in front of you, it’s just you, your bike, and the desert landscape.

Route 66 - A motorcycle trip

Making a motorcycle trip through New Mexico and Texas along old Route 66 isn’t just a ride; it’s a journey into a world of rugged beauty and forgotten history. You’re cruising through deserts, canyons, and ghost towns, feeling the wind in your hair and the sun on your face. It’s a trip that’s as much about the scenery as it is about the experience of hitting the open road, forgetting all your troubles.

New Mexico’s landscape isn’t like anything i’ve seen before. It’s a mix of vast deserts, rocky canyons, and wide-open skies that stretch on forever. Riding along Route 66, i’ll found myself surrounded by rugged terrain, both harsh and strangely beautiful.

I stopped along the way in some old western style small cities, charming souvenirs of a glorious past.

Then I reach Adrian, Texas. Here, you’re exactly at the middle point of route 66. This is a popular place for bikers, Mid Point Cafe was full of people from all over the states. Seeing their massive, fancy new bikes I was once again reminded about how my small, basic, old Honda Shadow is out of place there. But It’s enough for me, it does the job, it keeps me riding without issues.

Further down the road, at the limit between New Mexico and Texas, I come across a ghost town, Glenrio. These abandoned settlements are like something out of a movie, with crumbling buildings and empty streets where the weed is growing trough cracks in the pavement. I stoped to explore the town and it felt like stepping back in time, experimenting that kind of strange nostalgia about things I never lived. I tried to imagine the lives of peoples who called this place their home, their hopes, struggles, despair when they were forced by circumstances to leave their houses behind.

Back on the road again. There’s not much quite like the feeling of freedom you get from riding through the desert with the wind in your face.

With miles of highway stretching out in front of you, it’s just you, your bike, and the desert landscape. The desert sun beats down on you as you ride and there’s something peaceful about riding alone with your thoughts, with nothing but the sound of the engine to keep you company.

One of the best parts of a motorcycle trip is the camaraderie you share with your fellow riders, when you encounter them. Whether you’re swapping stories over a meal or helping each other out on the road, there’s a sense of brotherhood, a feeling of connection that’s hard to describe, but it’s one of the things that makes the journey so special.

So if you’re looking for a trip that’s equal parts thrilling and soul-soothing, hop on your bike and hit the open road. You won’t regret it.

There’s this new term floating around, “Mistake Economy,” and it hits the nail on the head. We’re living in times where it feels like messing up is expected and accepted. Last summer I did a US motorcycle tour, from east to west coast and back and I’ve noticed something pretty…

Posted on April 1, 2024April 1, 2024

Let’s call DEI on the real name: Department of discrimination against white males. How come we talk about “equity and inclusion” while being totally blindsided about the other half of the story, the discrimination that people are subjected to no fault of their own? Don’t try to sell us as…
